The Calgary Stampeders travel east in search of their first road win for 2015 against the Montreal Alouettes!
Calgary won its home opener against Hamilton thanks to a last second field goal and the Stamps were 8-1 SU/ATS away from Cow-Town in 2014, scoring 30.6 points per contest. CFL road faves off a win are 28-7 straight-up the past couple seasons but if there is one thing the Calgary Stampeders can’t afford to do, its take these Montreal Alouettes too lightly.
Montreal is coming off a disappointing 20-16 loss to Ottawa, losing two quarterbacks in the process and the CFL odds favor the Stamps by double-digits but the Als relished the role of home underdog last season, going 3-1 SU/ATS. One of the wins was against these Stamps in Week 13, springboarding a six-game win streak but the situation was dramatically different.
At the time, Calgary had win six in a row while scoring 30-plus points in all but one of those victories (28). The Stamps had a rematch with the BC Lions on-deck, who had taken them down 25-24 in a fourth quarter rally in Week 6. Montreal, meanwhile, was 3-7 SU and posing little threat. With Brandon Bridge the likely starter, some would argue the Als have little chance in this contest, either, but one of the secrets to HC John Hufnagel’s success: Don’t let up against the East.
Other than the loss to Montreal, Calgary scored 34-30-32 points in Eastern road games last season and 30-plus points in seven of nine away games overall. Calgary never trailed after the first quarter, scored at least two first-half touchdowns in six of nine games and made excellent defensive adjustments in the third quarter.
The Stamps also led the league in fourth quarter scoring with 7.8 PPG and so regardless of what the Als are able to accomplish on offense, we feel that Calgary will answer back at every chance. CFL road faves of -7 or more points have scored 34 PPG since 2007 and for tonight’s top pick, we’re going with a team total to cash.
