Top trends and sports betting tips from Sunday’s game between the San Diego Chargers and Carolina Panthers
The Panthers had a rough time on their two-game trip to the West coast. First was a 35-32 loss to Oakland that felt like ‘the one that got away’. After that, things turned ugly in Seattle. From Derek Anderson’s surprising trot onto the field for Carolina’s opening series, to the ensuing pick, and then the absolute collapse that followed. This did not look like a defending conference champion.
SAN DIEGO CHARGERS AT CAROLINA PANTHERS
Line: Panthers -1 and O/U 49
Carolina is allowing 370 yards per game on defense and when the total is more than 41, the Chargers’ non-divisional road record against a porous D is 19 overs and 6 unders. San Diego is 9-1 O/U making late season trips to the East and they’ve won a lot of the games straight-up.
I personally think San Diego wins this game straight-up and scores at least 27 points. Thought about flat betting the over but went with the side and a small play on SD TT OV 24. SD is 8-1-1 O/U in their past 10 games on grass and they are a 61-percent “Over” vs. the NFC in Sports Database history. See for yourself with this SDQL code: team = Chargers and not C
Cam Newton outright is a 64% OV play the past three seasons and it will be interesting to see how he and the rest of the offense respond this week to the locker room turmoil. Chemistry issues at this point in the season can be a killer and great teams with issues are a fade laying too many points. This week the spread is low, tempting bettors with Carolina but I don’t have faith in them getting on track against this Charger team who are still full of fight. Shop for team total of 24 and if you can’t find it, consider the Chargers to cover or even win straight-up.
