The first round of the Battle of Alberta takes place Monday as the Edmonton Eskimos travel to Calgary to take on the Stamps
It’s a quiet Labour Day for CFL betting with just one game for the first time in more than sixty years but the tension between these two western rivals is sure to be high. Calgary opened as a touchdown favorite and the sports betting public have flocked early to the home side, creating nice value on the road dog.
WEEK 10 CFL – ESKIMOS at STAMPEDERS
We’ve said it before and we will say it again. The Edmonton Eskimos (1-7 SU) are a better team than their record suggests. The Green and Gold have lost their last four games by a combined 12 points and have held their own against some of the league’s finest. First-year starting QB Mike Reilly has been improving every week and has demonstrated why the Esks made the off-season move to acquire him from the Leos. The Eskimos are falling short in the win column every week but we like the direction they are heading and last week they gave the league-leading Roughriders all they could handle.
The Eskimos will try and capitalize on a Stamps team that is without receiver Nik Lewis and potentially their leading rusher Jon Cornish. Even if Cornish does suit up there is a chance he may not be at full capacity.
The QB situation in Calgary is murky again in but it doesn’t seem to matter who starts for the Red and Black, as they have a stable of QB’s that can all move the ball. If the Stamps are without Cornish it will make them a little more on dimensional and the Esks will try to take advantage. This game has the makings of a classic battle of Alberta and we like the Eskimos to keep this game close as they try and hunt down that elusive second victory.
Pick: Take the Eskimos +8
