Week 1, 2016, NFL Odds and Line Moves

Updated ATS lines plus a free futures contest and access to the Killer Sports SDQL Handicapping Annual!

The NFL season gets underway in just a few days and Pick Sixty is ready to hit the ground running with Week 1 picks, power ratings and SDQL systems. I spent a lot of time over the summer refining my power ratings and cleaning up NFL systems. Basically, checking to see what worked last year and then moving anything else to the back burner. The SDQL at Sports Database is a perfect tool for updating your top football trends and systems with betting information back to 1989. The game has definitely changed over the years but certain aspects, things such as how teams prepare for divisional matchups, still seem to carry weight.

Pick Sixty partnered with EveryEdge over the past few months to publish NFL Season Previews for all 32 teams and we’re also releasing eight divisional previews this week. I encourage you to check these out while handicapping your Week 1 picks, as there are some great trends and betting angles to consider. The divisional previews also have insight towards NFL Season Win Totals with updated odds and futures.

Most of the sides and totals for Week 1 have stayed within a half-point of where they opened but with all the quarterback injuries and activity, we’ve seen a few notable changes.

Panthers at Broncos

Line: Carolina -3 (-125)

The Week 1 Thursday Night Football game is seeing heavy action on the road fave and I’m kicking myself for not betting the Panthers at -2 in June. With Mark Siemian starting against Cam Newton, the flow of money towards a revenge-fuelled Panther team is to be expected and I won’t be surprised to see this hit -4 by kickoff. The Broncos represent the first Thursday night, Week 1, home dog in 14 years.

Browns at Eagles

Line: Philadelphia -4

The Eagles were laying -6.5 at one point but they’ve hit some roughs patches through summer, have a rookie head coach (Dough Pederson) and are starting a rookie QB in Week 1. Carson Wentz says he’s ready but there is no way Philly should be laying -6.5 points, even against the Browns. This move feels like a common sense correction.

Vikings at Titans

Line: Minnesota -1

The answer to the skill testing question, “How many points is Teddy Bridgewater worth?” is ‘2’. So far the take back on Sam Bradford’s presence is only ‘1’ because the expectation is that Shaun Hill will start. As of Monday, Vikes HC Mike Zimmer has still not confirmed that.

The total in this game is O/U 41, down a point from 42. Home underdogs have a record of 37 overs and 69 unders the past 20 years in Week 1.

Giants at Dallas

Line: ‘Pick’

Okay, so I didn’t bet Carolina at -2, but I also held off on betting this game “Over” 49 in July and the total after Tony Romo’s injury has sunk to 46. Dallas was -3.5 at one point.

The 2016 Football Handicapping “Bible” was published in late-August and it is loaded with winning systems, strategies and SDQL that will blow your mind.
