Tuesday NHL Picks: Dallas Stars at Chicago Blackhawks

Pick Sixty’s NHL systems and data reveal strong value on the total for tonight’s game between the Stars and Hawks!

The Dallas Stars packed thier bags this week for a three-game road trip following a successful five-game homestand where they picked up three wins along with a single from a 5-4 OT loss to the St. Louis Blues. Dallas is 42-22-9 SU on the season, including 21 wins away from home, and they’ll look to maintain thier slim two-point lead over Chicago (42-24-7 SU) in the Central division standings.

Chicago is currently mired in one of its lowest scoring stretches all season (2.3 GPG in the past 12; 4-2-6 O/U) and the power play has failed to cash in their past five games (0 for 17). The Hawks (7:18 PIM/gm) are one of the most disciplined teams in the league but Dallas (8:32 PIM/gm) doesn’t give opponents many odd man chances either. When two winning teams with these parameters meet, the past 47 matchups have resulted in 15 overs and 32 unders.

NHL oddsmakers have lined this game at Chicago (-135) moneyline or you can lay a half-goal at +130. My initial instinct was towards the Hawks but after digging in, I’ve opted towards an Over/Under play with the lower juice of just -110.

Dallas is 5-1 SU in its past six against the Hawks including a 3-1-1 SU record in the Lone Star State. The most recent game was a 5-2 Dallas victory and that sets the Hawks up for a strong SDQL revenge profile that has produced 41 overs and 71 unders the past six seasons (63-percent UNDER). The Stars are 8-3 O/U this year in conference road games that followed a home start but each of those overs came with the services of Tyler Seguin (Achilles) in the lineup. Dallas is also 14-1 O/U in its past 15 trips to the Windy City but as mentioned above, the Hawks are not playing in thier finest form.

When small to midsize road dogs with a winning record play on the road off an extended home stand and the total is O/U 5.5, the Sports Database reveals a record of 37 overs and 68 unders. You can see the results of that online NHL betting system here (SDQL hockey system).

Our NHL predictions at Pick Sixty Sports have been solid all season and tonight we’ll look to continue that run with a total from this matchup. The Hawks are 1-5-5 O/U on Tuesday night games this season, a continuation of last year’s 3-9-4 O/U run in this spot, and they are 25-55 O/U the past two years with a total set at 5.5 goals. Chicago is also 8-32-8 O/U (80-percent UNDER) when avenging a road fave loss and with Kari Lehtonen and Scott Darling confirmed as tonight’s starters, we like this the value on this one staying low.

NHL Pick: Take the Stars-Hawks UNDER 5.5 goal at -110
