In today’s trend tips, Mark Sanchez returns to his old park and Tom Coughlin looks to finish strong. We break down the Eagles at Giants matchup with an ATS prediction along with notes from the NFC North showdown between the Lions and Packers!
The Philadelphia Eagles are turning into one of the most overrated teams of 2014 and although some will point the blame at Mark Sanchez, the Eagles also had season-long issues with an offensive line that were one of the top units in 2013. Football Outsiders ranks the Eagles at 30th in run blocking and ninth in pass protection. They’ve given up 21 sacks since the game against Houston when Nick Foles was injured and it didn’t take long for defensive co-ordinators to dust off their game film of Sanchez with the Jets, make comparisons to the Eagles offensive scheme from the past two seasons and figure out how to get pressure.
Philly was also third in turnover margin last season and they are 26th this year. That kind of fall-off rarely leads to success and this week, the Eagles are slumping into New York to take on a Giants team who have found big success on the pass rush (17 sacks) and turnover department (+5) during this three-game win streak.
EAGLES at GIANTS
This line opened at NY -3 and on Saturday it was bet down to -2.5 with a total of 52.5. Home teams are 36-17-1 ATS in tight lined games with high totals and from Week 15 out, that record improves to 10-4 ATS (71-percent). Access that pointspread betting trend with SDQL from SportsDatabase.com!
The G-Men stepped up last week in St. Louis, passing for 386 yards and rushing for 128 more in a 37-27 win over the supposedly stout Rams. It was NY’s third-straight win and HC Tom Coughlin is apparently teaching these guys what it means to finish strong after a third-straight lackluster season. New York exceeded its season average for total yards by a little more than 150 and when home off a game like that the Giants have covered four in row since 2002 if the line was within three points of ‘Pick em’. The most recent was earlier this year in Week 3 when they beat the Texans 30-17.
In Week 17, tight lined teams in this spot realized they can’t stop now if they are hosting a strong opponent and when our visitor’s win percentage is 60-percent or greater, the home side has cashed seven of eight tickets. Regardless of when the game takes place, home teams on a three-game win streak in this spot have performed well, winning straight-up and outscoring their opponent’s 23-12 on average. Our top side play today is on the Giants to cover.
