Sweet 16 Previews and Best Bets

Get in on the Sweet 16 action with Pick Sixty’s best bets from the March Madness Tournament!

The excitement of March Madness is infectious, even for the most casual basketball bettor. It starts with a bracket, maybe two, and then once you cash a couple tickets from the early rounds, it’s game on!

Today marks the start of the Sweet 16 with four killer matchups on the board. Purdue (15) and Kansas (3) are at the top of the rotation, tipping off at 9:40 pm ET, and the Jayhawks (30-4 SU, 13-19 ATS) have been bought from a 4-point opener to a current 5-point chalk line.

Betting against the public has produced a 61-percent ATS record thus far in March Madness (30-19), but in this case I’m believing the hype. Look for a strong “home court” effort from the Hawks as they cover the number.

Pick: Take the Jayhawks

Michigan (23) and Oregon (9) is the tightest line on the board Thursday, with the Wolverines currently listed at -1 and O/U 147. The Wolverines were paying 80 to 1 win it all when the March Madness Tournament betting opened but after beating Oklahoma State and Louisville, their current odds are down to 18 to 1. Futures value may be lost but bank on Michigan to keep its streak alive. In what should be a close game, I’m paying an extra 10 cents on the moneyline.

Pick: Take the Wolverines to win straight-up ***BEST BET***

The total for West Virginia (13) and Gonzaga (2) has moved from 146.5 to 149.5, making it the most significant jump in today’s Sweet 16 Over/Under odds. All four totals are up, signaling heavy public action, but once again I’m backing the chalk.

Sweet 16 Gonzaga Bulldogs

Gonzaga Bulldogs are my pick to win it all in the EveryEdge Madness 2017 Tournament Bracket and they’ve got a huge advantage here in the shooting department. The Zags are 34-1 SU and 22-9-1 ATS on the year, outscoring opponents 83.9 to 61.1. They’ve dominated the Mountaineers in recent play (3-0 SU/ATS), and margins were 4, 34 and 23 points. Try and shop for a -3 as Gonzaga takes their next step towards a championship.

Pick: Take the Bulldogs
