The Oakland Raiders are in New York to start the season and despite the grim outlook for both of these teams on the season, Over/Under bettors have driven this number up to 41
Oakland has to play three road games in the Eastern Time Zone this year but they catch a bit of break getting two of them out of the way early. The first is Week 1 at New York and the second is Week 3 at New England. The Raiders also have to play a “home” game in Old England in Week 4 (they’ll likely fly over direct from Logan International) but their second-half travel schedule is about as good as it gets for a western team. I don’t think the Raiders have a legitimate shot beating the Pats but maybe they can give the Jets a run in Week 1. The current NFL odds are Jets -6 and O/U 41. Note: William Hill offers the total at O/U 40
The Raiders stunk it up on the road last year but they did manage to score 20-plus points in four of their final five roadies after averaging 15 points their first three
`CAPPING NOTES AND SYSTEMS
“Live” system on: OVER
Non-divisional road dogs on turf who have another non-divisional game on-deck are 33-18-1 O/U the past four years when the total is less than 44 points. The bodyclock can sometimes work against west coast teams but starting the season off on the road may actually help the Raiders in this case. And although the MJD vs. CJ2K matchup doesn’t have all the flash it would’ve gotten five years ago, the ground game each of these teams brings to the table will help take a lot of press off the QBs.
Pick: Take the OVER
