Online wagering tips, odds, picks and trends from around the league including a coaching angle that is hitting 71-percent the past two seasons!
This week’s edition of our football betting tips features a coaching angle with a 17-7 ATS record that’s “live” in four Sunday matchups. We’ve been charting straight-up, ATS and Over/Under records for first- and second-year coaches in the league for years, looking for advantages in divisional matchups, home and away spots and with various pointspreads and while we don’t consider these to be ‘front line’ systems, they occasionally present strong winning percentages worth noting as you finalize your card. It’s kind of like the old ‘Super Bowl Look-ahead’ spot that hampered teams against the spread for years – you wouldn’t bet your house on it but it never hurts to have a look every once in a while!
ROAD DOGS OF +3.5 OR MORE
In this era of parity it’s never a bad thing to be getting more than field goal and so far this year the record for road dogs of +3.5 points or more is 47-47 ATS. The two most profitable groups have been dogs of +3.5 to +6 (23-15-1 ATS) or more than +10.5 (6-4 ATS), with each group hitting 60-percent or better.
The general observation we’ve made with rookie head coaches is that later in the season, these teams are often undervalued. Most of the time they’ve taken some lumps with the new team and in some cases the early season losses came against division foes who they are meeting for a second time. In 2013, the rookie head coaching class went 11-5 ATS in this spot and so far this year the new crop is picking up right where the first group left off, going 6-2 ATS in eight opportunities.
Four rookie head coach dogs to consider in Week 15 action are as follows:
Oakland (Sparano) +10.5 at Kansas City
Houston (O’Brien) +7 at Indianapolis
Washington (Gruden) +7 at New York Giants
Minnesota (Zimmer) +7.5 at Detroit
