Chicago is 9-19 to the “Under” as a dog after a loss in which they allowed 12-plus hits
The Los Angeles Dodgers are spending the weekend at Wrigley Field and this afternoon, Chicago will look to even the series after falling 6-4 in the opener Thursday night.
Chicago wasted little time getting the bats going Thursday and they led 2-0 through the first but things came unravelled in the sixth and the Cubbies would not recover. Hyun-Jin Ryu (9-3, 3.14 ERA) will make his first-ever start against the Cubs Friday so it’s not going to get any easier but the home side answers back with left-hander Travis Wood (7-7, 2.79 ERA). Current baseball odds show the Dodgers in the -153 to -165 range with a posted total of 8, down from 9 earlier in the day.
Since 2005, when two lefties hooked up for a day game at Wrigley the Cubs are 10-7 SU and those 17 games ended with 4 overs, 12 unders and 1 push. When the total was 9 or greater just 2 of 8 games went over (Cubs were 4-4) and the full list of games can be seen with the following SDQL link from SportsDatabase.com.
The Cubs have quietly become a nice bounce back team in the past couple months and since June 5 the team is 13-5 as a dog coming off a loss. Chicago is also 14-7 this season when they are off a loss in which they held the lead and it is not the first game of a series for a net profit of nearly 11 units. That can be viewed here:
The Cubs are 29th in the majors hitting against lefties (.228) and the Dodgers are fourth at .263. It hard to put a lot of trust in Chicago’s bullpen but Wood gives his team a chance to win every time he takes the mound. Pinnacle Sports offers an Over/Under line of 5 Under (-112) and for Friday’s early action we’ll take these teams staying below five runs though the first-half.
