Online gambling sites have released their first set of CFL futures for the 2014 season following the Ottawa Redblacks’ expansion draft
The CFL held its expansion draft on Monday and the Ottawa Redblacks made a splash, selecting two quarterbacks in the first round to lead their team into the 2014 season. Thomas DeMarco, formerly of the BC Lions and Kevin Glenn, who had been one of the Calgary Stampeders’ most valuable players the past two seasons, will compete for the starting job when camp opens next summer. Barring injury, the job is Glenn’s to lose and with DeMarco the Redblacks have their desired combination of veteran leadership and raw talent. But according to the first set of Grey Cup odds, online bookmakers are giving the expansion club little hope to compete.

Sports Interaction has answered the demands of Canadian football fans as one of the first sports betting sites to offer 2014 Grey Cup Futures. The first set of odds and Season Win Totals are the closing numbers from June, 2013 (see Stadium CFL-13 for more details). The second set is how the 2014 odds looked just two days after the Ottawa Redblacks expansion draft.
Team and Grey Cup Odds (2013), SWT & 2014 Odds
British Columbia Lions: +350 and 11.5 OV -115… +350
Calgary Stampeders: +400 and 11 OV -115………. +401
Edmonton Eskimos: +1400 and 7.5 UN -130……… +900
Saskatchewan Roughriders: +450 and 9 OV -115.. +400
Winnipeg Blue Bombers: +1500 and 6.5 OV -115. +1200
Hamilton Tiger-Cats: +700 and 8.5 OV -125………. +701
Montreal Alouettes: +500 and 10 UN -130………… +800
Ottawa Redblacks: 2014 – First season in CFL……. +2500
Toronto Argonauts: +450 and 9 OV -115…………… +697
Odds on the Lions, Stamps and Riders are remarkably similar in the West with the division’s newcomer, Winnipeg, lagging behind. Hamilton has taken over as one of the Eastern favorites for the first time in more than 10 years and with Montreal stepping back, the Cats will be after their second straight divisional crown and first league championship since 1999. At +697 the Argonauts may offer the best value from the East and will come as no surprise to see that line drop during the off-season.
