NHL Playoffs, Round 1, 2018

The NHL playoffs begin with three games today and thus far I have focused on series bets with a heavy influence towards the Winnipeg Jets.

Updating playoff ledgers from last year, my final Round 1 record was 6-5 for +1.34 units. Sides went 2-2 & totals 4-3.

I split my first two series bets from Round 1 of the NHL Playoffs for even money (won with Ducks, lost with Habs).

Without further adieu, here are my predictions for the first round of this year’s NHL Playoffs and beyond.

Round 1 Series Bets: NHL Playoffs

1. LAK +110 over the Knights; 200-220

Kings are a veteran playoff team with a lot of Cup rings in that dressing room. They went 12-8 in the final 20 games while the Knights played .500 hockey. From all the metrics I’m using, LA has the slight edge and we’re getting plus-money.

2. ANA -115 over the Sharks; 230-200

Ducks took advantage of some easier matchups and scheduling situations down the stretch but a good team just beats whoever is in front of them. They are 10-1-1 their past 12 and after an eight-game win streak, the Sharks are 1-4-1 their past six. I’m riding the hot hand.

3. CBJ +110 over the Caps; 150-165

Jobs are 13-4 their past 17, outscoring teams 4.1 to 2.7. Getting plus-money on a team with this much firepower seems like a good bet to me. Caps often feel like an overvalued fave to me but that said, they are 13-2 as a fave since mid-February. Made this a smaller play.

4. Winnipeg Jets to crush the Wild (three ways)

Best Bet: Jets -1.5 games at +120; risk 200 to win 240

Exact Series Hedge: Jets in 7 at +420; 50 to win 210

Moneyline Play: Emptied my Bookmaker account on Jets at -230, risking 230 to win 100.

NHL Playoffs get underway

The Nashville Predators are the top favorite to win the West, while Tampa Bay is collecting top funds in the Eastern Conference!

NHL Playoffs: Futures (beyond Round 1)

1. WPG to win the West; 100-450 at SIA

Booked a 1-unit futures play on March 7 for WPG to win the West at +450.

2. BOS to win the East; 100-325 at G

If the Bruins do get by Toronto in the first round I think they will be a force in the next two rounds.
