The first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs is finally here and we have three predictions to consider along with playoff betting tips to help you profit in the months ahead!
The Stanley Cup odds heading into this year’s playoffs suggest the New York Rangers and St. Louis Blues have the best chance off hooking up in the finals but 14 other teams couldn’t care less what the oddsmaker thinks. Each round will present its share of upsets and one of the first things bettors need to remember as the playoffs get underway is that you don’t need to bet every game, every day. It’s a long road between here and June, and one of the best strategies is to track futures odds, check daily lines for each matchup and look for spots to grab some value.
We had a profitable run to the Cup in 2014, banking plus-5 units of profit and correctly predicting that the Los Angeles Kings would become champs. And as usual, Pick Sixty Sports will be posting every one of our plays on Twitter and at the EveryEdge sports betting forum. We’ll also feature best bets and NHL playoff betting systems here at the site along with SDQL codes you can track at the Sports Database. Hop on and enjoy the ride! Pick Sixty stands for sports betting news you can use – Free picks, all the time.
First Round NHL Playoff Picks
Our top three predictions for teams to advance into the second round are on the Winnipeg Jets, St. Louis Blues and Chicago Blackhawks. The Jets are a dog so the approach to that one is simple: Bet a unit on the Jets at the best line you can find. With the other two favorites we had to get more creative to avoid the juice and after crunching the numbers, we like the payback on the ‘Correct Series Prediction’ odds. Be sure to shop around during the payoffs and find the best price for your hard earned dollar.
Jets at +130 over the Duck
*Blues over the Wild in either 6 or 7 games (odds of +500 and +350)
*Hawks over the Predators in either 6 or 7 games (odds of +330 and +500)
*Split a half-unit on each price
NHL Playoff Betting Tips
The hottest two teams during the past 10 games are the Ottawa Senators and New York Rangers, each sporting a 6-4 record. In the last five games, the Sens, Rangers, Lightning, Jets, Canucks, Habs and Blues all show a 4-1 record and remember, the bottom seeded teams (Sens, Jets) have been playing playoff style hockey for weeks. They should show some nice jump out of the gate, despite their lack of post-season experience.
