The Winnipeg Jets are in Calgary following a dramatic comeback win over the Boston Bruins on Thursday night. Winnipeg wraps up the season tonight and these Jets are running on fumes, a tough spot agianst one of the hottest home teams in the second half
The Jets beat Calgary 5-2 on Jan. 16 but since then the Flames are 12-4 at home. Three of the four losses were by one goal; the other was a 2-0 loss to Los Angeles Kings. Calgary is averaging 3.6 GPG in these 16 games and they face a Jets team tonight who traveled on zero rest following a 2-1 shootout win over Boston. Tough order for Winnipeg (WPG) but they have played sound defensive hockey down the stretch and rookie G Michael Hutchinson held back-to-back opponents to a single goal.
My biggest hesitation in this game is that Pavvy will start and I guess I’m also concerned over WPG’s fatigue factor but I think the Jets will have a hard time scoring goals in this one. So many stars are out of the lineup for WPG and as much as HC Maurice would like to see his team finish strong, I fear that the late comeback win over Boston Friday may take the wind out of this team’s sails.
To try and hedge against an empty netter I’ve made two plays on this game (neither team has confirmed a starter):
