Hamilton Tiger-Cats CFL Preview

The Ti-Cats finished 2012 at the bottom of the division and it looks like a rebuilding year, in more ways than one!

Historic Ivor Wynne Stadium is being rebuilt for 2014 but in the meantime the Tiger-Cats must make do with temporary surroundings and a club that could struggle to find balance in the early going.

[dropcap2]T[/dropcap2]he biggest news in Ti-Cat country is the arrival of HC/GM Kent Austin. After a season where the high-flying offense was over shadowed by an underachieving defense, Austin has his work cut out for him. A former football coach with Cornell University, Austin said he doesn’t believe in “rebuilding” and that he and his coaching staff can be capable of assembling a squad from their current roster that is capable of winning now.

Hamilton finished 2012 with a 9-9 record against the spread but the big payday for online bettors and pro action parlay types came with the totals where the Ti-Cats produced a record of 13 overs, 4 unders and a push (77-percent to the over).

PickSixtySports.com has tracked Grey Cup Odds at three separate sports betting outlets since early May and the Ti-Cats (+700) are the only team from our chart that did not budge from its opening number.

Key additions for the Cats include HC/GM Kent Austin, S James Patrick, LB Shomari Williams, LB Marcellus Bowman, DB Evan McCollough, DT Brian Bulcke and OL Greg Wojt.

Subtractions: HC George Cortez GM Bob O’Billovich, RB Avon Cobourne , RB Martell Mallett , QB Quinton Porter, Geoff Tisdale, LB Rey Williams, LB Kevin Eiben and WR Chris Williams

The contract dispute that saw league all star WR Chris Williams fail to show for training camp should have the Cats worried. Williams is a dynamic player and accounted for so much of the potent Hamilton attack. That being said, dramatic steps were taken by Austin to shore up a defense that leaked points like a sieve. Austin’s theory of single-season turnarounds will be tested in 2013.
