Free NHL Picks: Lightning at Canadiens

We have three hockey picks booked for Monday. Here are a few NHL betting tips starting with the Tampa Bay Lightning and Montreal Canadiens!

Montreal is home for this contest trying to gain revenge from a 4-2 loss in Tampa Bay on March 16. That game was just one of two regulation losses for the Habs in their past eight games and the other was a 5-2 setback in Winnipeg with Dustin Tokarski between the pipes. Carey Price is confirmed tonight against Ben Bishop and Montreal is coming off a 3-2 overtime win against the Florida Panthers on Saturday and NHL lines for this game favor the home side at -125 with a total of 5 OV (-115).

Tampa Bay is off a 4-0 loss in Detroit and the Bolts have lost two in a row but Tampa is 8-0 this season following back-to-back losses and 16-3 dating back to the start of 2013. Check the entire list of games with this SDQL trend set from team=Lightning and season>=2013 and streak=-2

On the road, Tampa is 5-2 when looking to put the brakes on a losing streak, the most recent loss coming on April 20, 2014 against these Habs. That was Game 4 of their playoff series that Montreal eventually won 4-1 but since then, Tampa Bay is 4-0 against the Canadiens, outscoring them 16-5 in the process.

My first thought was to book Tampa Bay at plus-money and I ran some codes for teams with a substantial shooting percentage that supported the play. The Bolts’ team total OVER 2.5 also looked good but when facing Price, it’s hard to pull the trigger on that play. Tyler Johnson (upper body) is out for the Bolts so that hurts their scoring and the Lightning are also getting thin on the defensive side. Montreal’s offense has been a concern but this is a nice opportunity for a motivated group to end their slide against the Bolts and at home, the Habs have started to light the lamp a little more consistently with 11 goals in their past four.

When looking at home faves off a home game who have lost four-straight to their opponent we see a record of 9 overs, 4 unders and 2 pushes and the games finished with a total of 6.1 goals. The road team contributed three-plus goals in 10 of those 15 games and I still think the Bolts could win straight-up but after checking all my other numbers, my play is on the total.

Pick: Take the Lightning and Habs OVER 5 goals at +105

We settled on a few of the wrong sides last week (6-8-2) and it put an end to our modest two-week winning streak. The Pick Sixty Sports’ 2014-15 NHL record sits at 78-71-6 (.523 WP and +235; S: 35-29 & T: 43-42-6) and in the past three weeks I’m 21-15-4 for +7.1 units.
