There is a polar vortex sweeping over much of North America but the Anaheim Ducks are red hot and tonight they’ll take on the Boston Bruins
Since Dec. 6 the Ducks have scored at least three goals in all but two of their 14 games and there is no word yet on who will start in net for Boston but our hunch is that Tuukka Rask will get the nod. Rask was given a break for the Bruins’ first game of 2014 and Niklas Svedberg earned his first-ever NHL win against Nashville (3-2 in OT). The following game, Rask improved to 21-9-2 with a 4-1 win over the Winnipeg Jets but that was a day game on Saturday (Jan. 4) so he’s had plenty of time to rest.
Anaheim is undefeated in regulation at home this season (17-0-2) and Boston’s last trip to the west coast ended on a sour note. The B’s had won three-straight road games before stopping in Vancouver and the Canucks throttled Boston 6-2. Since then the Bruins are 4-0 against Western Conference teams.
[quote_text color=”#000000″ text_color=”#ffffff”]Boston’s road record off a home game with a posted total of ‘5’ is 5-6-1 O/U including a current streak of 2-6 O/U (0-2 O/U in 2013 season)[/quote_text]
The total on this contest is 5 OV (-140) and for Boston to get a win they will likely have to hold the Ducks to fewer than three goals. The Ducks Team Total is 2.5 OV (-135) and the “Under” pays back at +105 but betting the entire game to stay under 5 pays back at +129 (Pinnacle Sports). Since 2011, Boston is 29-18-2 O/U when playing on the road off a home game but when facing a team with a winning record that mark slips to 11 overs, 14 unders and a push (Click Sports Database SDQL link for details). Look for the Bruins to play a physical style of hockey and limit Anaheim’s quality scoring chances. We see this game being decided in the third period or possibly overtime and while the dog does look tempting, the “Under” at plus money offers just much value.
Pick: Take the Bruins and Ducks UNDER 5 (+129), risking 1.5 units

[quote_text color=”#000000″ text_color=”#ffffff”]On this day in NHL history the Philadelphia Flyers were coming off their 35th consecutive game without a loss (25-0-10), a record that still stands today as the longest unbeaten streak in National Hockey League history. Philly was 14-0-6 at home and 11-0-4 on the road during that run.[/quote_text]
Bruins at Ducks: Anaheim’s 10-game stretch without a loss (Dec. 6-28) ended with a 3-1 setback in San Jose on Dec. 29. The Ducks were playing in a back-to-back and since then they are 3-0 including Sunday’s 4-3 OT win over the Vancouver Canucks. Anaheim trailed that game 2-0 and 3-2 but kept fighting back, eventually scoring the winner with 0.6 seconds left in the extra frame.
