Free NFL Preseason Picks: Bills at Vikings

Greg Dempson offers two solid systems supporting his play on Minnesota to cover

The Minnesota Vikings opened their preseason with a loss against Houston while the Buffalo Bills stormed into Lucas Oil Field and upset the Colts 44-20 as 4.5-point underdogs. Indy led 13-6 midway through the second quarter before Marquise Goodwin returned a kick 107 yards for the Bills’ first major and from there the rout was on.

Minnesota is projected to give Christian Ponder a majority of the reps thorough the first-half tonight while Buffalo hands the controls to Kevin Kolb, who sat out last week’s win at Indianapolis. Doug Marrone has indicated that Scott Chandler will get some reps at tight end but that leading receiver Stevie Johnson (knee) and potential candidate for the No. 2 WR slot, TJ Graham (groin) will be inactive.

There is a nice 80-percent NFL preseason betting system posted at the GD Sports home page and I’ll offer another strong statistical system for the Vikings at Bills (-3.5)  game that has cashed 20 of 26 plays (77-percent) against the number the past 10 seasons.

The system reads as follows:

Play on road teams during the preseason after a game where they allowed a 68-percent or higher completion percentage (with 20 or more attempts), when playing against an opponent that allowed 5.5 or less passing yards per attempt in their previous game.

Minnesota allowed Matt Schaub, TJ Yates and Case Keenum to complete 31 of 44 passes (70-percent) last week for 306 yards and that’s more than 60 yards above their defensive team average from 2012. Look for a better effort from the Purple People Eaters on both sides of the ball tonight as they try and even their record to 1-1.

Pick: Take the Vikings
