The first of three plays in the Masters First Round Matchups are in the clubhouse and we update all three picks in this “live” report from Augusta.
The 77th Masters Tournament is far from being over but it’s always a good idea to check in the first round leaders to see how the top favorites are dealing with weather and pressure of the PGA’s first major.
Marc Fleishman (6-under) is the surprise leader in the clubhouse followed by David Lynn, who shot a remarkable 4-under par in his first time on this track. Lynn birdied three times on the front nine and actually held a share of the lead at one point but gave back two strokes with bogeys on 10 and 17 to finish at 68.
Jim Furyk is third at 3-under par and poised to make his 15th cut in 17 tries at Augusta. Furyk’s 69 is tied for his second-best first round score of all time (66) and each of those previous outings (2001, 2009), Furyk finished in the top 10 overall.
MATCH IT UP!
Greg Dempson offered three First Round Matchups for the 2013 Masters and bettors have already cashed the first play with Ryan Moore’s 1-under par 71 over Kevin Streelman (4-over). Moore was a value play at -105 on the moneyline and golf odds were actually improving with the fifth-timer as Thursday drew near. The first round has traditionally been one of Moore’s strongest rounds at Augusta and he’ll be looking to extend his perfect cut record with a good round on Friday.
The second matchup is a close one between Rickie Fowler (1-under) and Jason Day (2-under) and the third looks at Thorbjorn Oleson, who is fighting back from a double-bogey on 10. Oleson was favored against DA Points (1-under), who has just bogeyed 13.
