Baseball data shows an alarming 67-percent win rate for home teams off a road game this year and Monday’s MLB card offers plenty of samples for players to test the system.
The Toronto Blue Jays treated Canadian long-weekenders to a Monday win against the Tampa Bay Rays and the “Over” was an easy winner as the 7-5 final easily cleared the closing total of 9. Cleveland beat Seattle 10-8 in other Major League Baseball action and the rest of the MLB betting card gets underway at 7 pm Eastern with an Interleague game and 10 regular league matchups.
Seven clubs are playing at home today after a road game and since August 13, 2012 the home team has a profitable 131-81 record in this spot, outscoring opponents 4.7 to 3.9. The average line for home teams in this spot was -147 and bettors have banked a more than $3,400 in this simple profile based on a $100 unit size.
This season alone the record is already at 61-31 backing these home teams and with the Jays (-155) already gone, there are still five more plays to consider for Monday night. Four of the remaining five are underdogs, too, and you can have a clear look at the lineup by clicking the link below for SportsDatabase.com:
The Giants (-140) are a streaky team this year but at 24-20, the win streaks have kept bettors in the black since April 2. San Fran has lost three in a row and Ryan Vogelsong (1-4, 8.06) may not be the solution to stopping this slide but San Fran is hitting lefties at .259 and Nationals chucker Zach Duke is ripe to get rocked by a Giants lineup who are hitting much better at home than away. With a posted total of 8 Over (+101) and wind at the Stick (AT&T) blowing out, we’ll take our chances with the total.

We have a few other tidbits to consider for Monday along with some fantasy news and a look at tonight’s NHL betting card.
AROUND THE HORN
Texas Rangers infielder Jurickson Profar is already owned in 55-percent of MLB Fantasy leagues but you may still be able to catch him if you act fast. Baseball scouts love everything about the shortstop and with Ian Kinsler moving to the DL, Profar will get his chance to make an impact starting at second base.
Profar has great bat speed and he’s slotted to hit ninth but look for him to slide into the No. 2 or No. 3 spot by next season, an absolute “must have” for keeper leagues.
Johnny Cueto is starting for the Reds today against Shaun Marcum and the Mets and New York (+142) could offer decent value for dog bettors. It’s Cueto’s first appearance since April 13 and while he should be good for five to six innings, the Reds bullpen ranks 15th with a 3.76 ERA and has four blown saves in 15 opportunities.
The Detroit Red Wings will host the Chicago Blackhawks (-131) in game 3 of their Western Conference semi-final tonight and the NHL odds currently show a total of 5 Under (-120). Chicago wasn’t nearly as sharp in game 2 of the series but we look for this squad to press and bring a blinding speed to the contest that will force Detroit away from any defensive shell. Hawks goalie Corey Crawford can be beat and with both teams gunning to take a series lead our play is on this game reaching at least six goals.
