College Basketball Picks: West Virginia at Texas Tech

The West Virginia Mountaineers are in Texas tonight looking to stretch their winning streak to three and Greg Dempson has a free pick to consider in his college hoops betting premiere at Pick Sixty Sports!

In the conference tournament last year the Mountaineers at (–8,) were upset by the Texas Tech Red Raiders 71-69 as an 8-point favorite so tonight they are playing with a measure of revenge and the odds with a majority of sportsbooks favor the road side by -1.5 or -2, up from an opening line of -1.

The Red Raiders are 7-2 at home this season with each loss being vs. a quality opponent. The first was to LSU (71–69) on December 18 and the second, a 73-62 setback to Iowa State on Saturday. Texas Tech is 0-6 ATS vs. teams in the top 100 (WV is #56) and I note that when the Red Raiders step up in class they are 7-20 ATS the past three seasons vs. teams who outscore their opponents by 8-plus points per game (PPG).

West Virginia is winning games by an average score of 13.2 PPG and in road games that scoring margin is exactly 8.0 PPG. I make the line at -3.5 in favor of West Virginia when factoring in tonight’s power rating so I see a couple points worth of value. Last year on February 2, the Mountaineers (-4.5) throttled the Red Raiders 77–61 at Texas Tech and I’m investing 1.0 unit on them to finish this short road trip in style.

Pick: Take West Virginia -1.5 (available at Pinnacle Sports)
