College Basketball Picks: Ohio State at Michigan State

Third-ranked Ohio State travels to East Lansing Tuesday to face fifth-ranked Michigan State and Greg Dempson looks to build on his strong college hoops betting streak for 2014 with this free ATS prediction

The Buckeyes are 15-0 SU this season but they have only played two road games as well as one neutral site contest where they edged Notre Dame 64–61. Ohio State played at Purdue on New Year’s Eve and won 78-69 vs. the Boilermakers and they also defeated Marquette by 17 points away from home, 52-35.

Ohio State has won two of its past three games in East Lansing and has 22-11 all-time mark against the Spartans when ranked in the Top 25 poll. When both teams are ranked, these two foes have split 14 meetings. The Buckeyes bring their stifling defense to the Breslin Center allowing an average of 54.9 PPG and no opponent has been able to crack the 70-point mark this season. Their perimeter defense has been exceptional as they’re limiting opponents to 24.3-percent shooting from 3-point range, the lowest mark in Division I play.

The Spartans are averaging 39.3-percent when shooting from 3-point range but if Ohio State can defend the three they should be able to cover the spread and perhaps even win straight up. In their last five meetings Ohio State has either won straight up or stayed within four points of the Spartans.

Tonight’s selection is supported by the following system where we play against home favorites of -3.5 to -9.5 points after beating the spread by 24 or more combined points in their last three games and facing an opponent that has played over the total by a combined 18 points or more in their past three. This system is 12-5 ATS the past three seasons as well as 93-47 ATS (66-percent) since 1997.

I’ve invested 1.0-unit on Ohio State at +6 (-105)
