Chirper’s Corner: Senators at Canadiens

The Chirp Dog was away the past couple weeks but he’s back to ring in the New Year with a moneyline prediction for the Eastern Conference battle between the Ottawa Senators and Montreal Canadiens

Welcome to Chirper’s Corner 2014! It’s time to turn a new page on this wildly popular, Pick Sixty weekly hockey betting exclusive and we’ll get right down to business with two Canadien teams who are dropping the puck at 7 pm ET.

NHL Odds Online: Habs -140 and 5.5 OV (-122)

The Sens and Habs have become quite the little rivalry as of late and Ottawa really stoked the fire during last year’s playoff, clinching the series with a 6-1 win at Montreal’s rink. Today marks the second of five meetings this season with the Sens taking the first game in Ottawa by a score of 4-1 on November 7. Each team was still struggling to find an identity at the time but the Sens come into this contest riding a three-game win streak and it’s helping attract money to the ‘dog’ side. Online sportsbooks opened this line with the Habs listed as high as -155 but at publication, 5 Dimes is posting a -140 in moneyline betting.

Montreal has now lost four-straight in this series but that being said, it’s time to break out the wacky tobacky – Saturday’s tilt at the Bell Centre should be a barnburner! Ottawa’s win streak ties a season-high set Nov. 5-9 while the Habs will be looking to the Poutine gods and all the fans of that delicious dish for support. And who doesn’t like Poutine? The Habs haven’t had a hometown feeding frenzy since Dec. 17.

[quote_text color=”#000000″ text_color=”#ffffff”]Montreal was 3-2-1 on its recent six-game road trip and has posted a 12-7-2 record this season on home ice[/quote_text]

Goaltending will be a key to this game (like it isn’t every night?), but that’s not what I’m sayin’! It’s an important game for both hockey clubs as the Sens are trying to climb up the rankings with Craig Anderson playing well as of late after a rough start. The veteran won his fourth straight Thursday against the Winnipeg Jets and turned away 33 of 34 shots in that series finale vs. the Habs last May. As for Carey Price, the Team Canada hopeful is coming off a bit of an uncharacteristic start against the Isles Thursday but a win is a win and sometimes that’s just Carey being Carey.

The Habs are looking to serve up their fans a share of crispy grit, curdy tenacity and a saucy victory. We know the Sens aren’t playing scared at this building after recent success but I’m expecting a good divisional matchup. Enjoy the pouti… er, I mean game, everyone. Chirp out!
