New York is making a trip north without Slick Rick and I say, “No Nash, No cash!” No Lundqvist either for that matter….
Saturday’s Game of the Night from our weekly hockey betting feature is the New York Rangers wearing Metropolitan blue vs. the Bleu, Blanc et Rouge Canadiens of the Atlantic. Montreal won the first meeting 2-0 and the Habs are 12-4 against New York since 2009 including a three-game sweep in the shortened 2012-13 season. Chirper’s Corner takes a bite of the big apple with two plays from tonight’s NHL gem.
NY RANGERS at CANADIENS
Live NHL Odds: Habs -121 and 5 UN (-107)
Alain Vigneault is making his return back to La Belle Province and has left his wife at home. He’s enjoyed coming here not just for the hockey but for the “je ne sais quoi” ambience that the city has to offer, which will have his team hypnotized into the wee hours of Saturday morning. New York play’s poorly in Montreal having not won a game there since March 17, 2009.
Recently squeaking out a victory are the Canadiens, 3-2 in a shootout over the Crap Jackets Friday night who were playing without Marian Gaborik. David Deharnais potted the winner to the relief of many a Hab fan that have been patiently waiting for him to catch on.
The Rangers are struggling to get anything going offensively this season and come into the game ranked 24th in scoring at 2.28 goals per game (GPG). Montreal isn’t doing much better (2.55 GPG) and during their recent 2-3-2 slide that scoring average has dropped to just 2.1 goals per contest. It’ll be a hard fought affair as the Habs return to the Bell Centre for a short two game stand. The Canadiens have much to prove to their fan base. Hopefully PK and coach Therrien have sorted out there issues and they can put on a show for the fortunate crowd at the game.
Cam Talbot? Who? Guess he’s getting the start for the Rangers in Montreal. Big stage for a spring chicken! If he makes key saves early he’ll be fine. But if he’s shaky and fighting the puck then just listen as the verbal harassment from a taunting crowd leads to a downward spiral soon after. Carey Price will stand between the pipes for Montreal and should be sharp after having plenty of rest. Smoke ‘em if ya got ‘em and Chirp out! Click for Facebook thread
Chirper’s Pick: Habs -121 (****out of *****)
Squeaker Pick: Rangers at Canadiens UNDER 5 (-107)
