The winning streak for Chirper’s Corner NHL picks hit three-straight last week and Burner’s back for another go with Pittsburgh’s Saturday night game against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Oh great. It’s a rarity people but I’m writing about the Maple Queefs. Must be because “The Croz” is in town! Sidney Crosby has nine goals and eight assists in 12 career road matchups against the Leafs and overnight NHL odds at one book show the Pens -110 but half the others are still holding back. No matter, the total is 5.5 Over (-131) and today’s preview focuses on Over/Under betting.
PITTSBURGH PENGUINS at TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS
The center of the universe is playing host to Pittsburgh in this Saturday edition of the battle of the blades with both teams coming in off a loss. It was not the greatest performance by the Pens Friday, and #87 and the big Macaulay Malkin go from drinking Long Island iced teas through the third period to the home of the (singing the Blue) Jays. Where are the Expos when you need them?
A late burst by the Islanders led to three goals in five minutes capped by Josh Bailey’s fourth of the season at 18:20 of the third to seal it. All of this in front (and behind) of rookie goalie Jeff Zatkoff (who?), making his second career start. Anyway, Pittsburgh hasn’t lost three consecutive regular season contests since a six-game skid back in January, 2012. Kris Letang’s return to the lineup should help the Pens on both sides of the center line. Letang missed nine games with a lower-body injury but he played 25 and-a-half minutes vs. the Isles including eight minutes on the power play (3 SOG, -1).
As for the Laughs, they didn’t win any prizes themselves Friday, losing 5-2 to the Crap Jackets! Both teams are travelling for this game but it will be easy for the home town Leafs to get up for this one. Jeez, I wonder why? Look for sloppy play, loose back ends and a drunken Leaf fan holding a $20 beer that he’s about to spill all over his buddy.
[quote_text color=”#000000″ text_color=”#ffffff”]”Do I really hate Toronto? Yes. But it’s for good reason: I was born and raised in Montreal. Oh I’m no prince either but go Croz go!”[/quote_text]
The Leafs will get outshot as they normally do and although it’s not confirmed I’m expecting to see Marc-Andre Fleury against James Reimer (Check status). MAF had the night off Friday to prepare and Optimus Reims has been recovering from a head injury and flu-like symptoms but HC Carlyle said he’s made progress. Fleury is 7-1 in his eight starts this season including two of two road wins and he beat the Leafs twice at the ACC last season. He is playing better and it has to feel good for him to rebound after such a crap playoff run the previous season. Just ask Carey Price. There is still not enough goaltending to stop the rubber that we’ll see flying in this one. Chirp chirp! Smoke ’em if ya got ’em. I like the Over.
Chirper’s Pick: Pens and Leafs OVER 5.5 goals (***out of *****)
Squeaker Pick: Capitals -1.5 (+235)
