Chirper’s Corner: Canadiens at Predators

The Montreal Canadiens stop in Nashville for the second game of their current six-game road trip hoping to erase the memory of a disastrous 5-1 loss to St. Louis on Thursday

Pucker up buttercup! It’s gonna’ be a tight affair with little flair at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville Saturday. So quiet you’ll be able to hear a mouse fart in the building!

I call it a “delicate dance on ice” with two teams struggling to fill the basket. They meet up for the second time this season. The Preds took the first contest (2-1) in Montreal back in October. If you like defensive hockey, this is the place for you. Habs will be looking to tighten up their rear ends after letting in five against St. Lou the other night. And the Preds will be extra cautious in the D-zone with the backups giving up at least three goals seven of their past 10 outings.

Scoring woes are cyclical for every team in the league no matter what point in the season. Case in point: Montreal… Recently the Habs have potted only seven goals in their last six contests but they have been able to bury it on several occasions so far this season. But on the other side of the scoring sheet, some teams just can’t score, and aren’t built for full tilt tag’em and bag’em hockey. Nashville is one of those teams. Long-time coach and staple of the Preds, Barry Trotz has never really had the personnel nor the style to create tons of offence in his long tenure in Nashville; same story different season this year. Hard to get W’s as well when your #1 is out with E Coli in his hip. Ouch!

Canadiens are 3rd in the East with 81 goals against while the Preds are 29th in the league with 80 goals for. Yikes. Grab a Rum ’n Nog and enjoy a nap while this is on in the background. Chirp out.

Chirper’s Pick: Habs and Preds UNDER 5 (-108) *** out of *****
