Chirper’s Corner: Blackhawks at Canadiens

It’s prove it or lose it time and this week the Chirper’s hockey betting feature looks at Chicago Blackhawks vs. the Montreal Canadiens

Les Habitants are hosting the reigning Stanley Cup champs tonight for the first time since 2011. Tonight’s theme, “Prove it or lose it!” Holidays are over boys. Put down the Poutine!

NHL Odds Online: Hawks -132 and 5.5 UN (-130)

For the players, coaches and fans it will be undoubtedly easy to get up for this one as two Original Six teams collide, each looking get off the shnide. It’s time to see what you’re made of, Montreal! We’ll see if the Habs can match the strength of Chicago beneath the red lines. I think a good transitional game with speed along with a good power play will be key for the Canadiens. They are playing a very deep team in Chicago who is loaded with studs, 10 of which are going to the Sochi Olympic Games. It will be difficult to match the Blackhawks size, so speed is crucial to try and get them to take penalties so the Habs can take advantage of their 28th ranked penalty kill.

Although there are two premier goaltenders between the pipes tonight special teams will be the deciding factor in this one. The “Over” is 9-1-1 in Chicago’s last 11 games vs. teams with a winning home record. For Montreal, the “Over” has cashed at 5-1-1 rate when facing teams from the Western Conference. Through 46 games, Chicago has averaged 6.4 total goals for and against while the Habs hover just below five through 45 (4.9) and as we said, it’s time to step up. A must watch hockey game tonight at the Bell Centre; Coors Original 6 chilling in the fridge. Chirp out.

Chirper’s Pick: OVER 5.5 +120 (***out of *****)
