The Cleveland Indians have won five-straight and will look to continue their hot streak tonight against Jeremy Guthrie and the Kansas City Royals
This three-game series opened Tuesday and the Indians wasted little time jumping to a 4-0 lead but Kansas City fought back to tie things up before fading down the stretch. The 6-5 final made it five-straight wins for Cleveland as they cling to a half-game lead in the American League Central standings over Detroit.
Scott Kazmir (4-4, 4.83 ERA) will make his first start since June 26, a 4-3 win against Baltimore, and this will be the left-hander’s first time facing the Royals as a member of the Indians. He is 3-3 with a 5.09 ERA vs. this old rival, all-time.
The baseball odds for today’s game show Kansas City at -110, down from -118 earlier today and the total is at 8.5 Over (-120). We have a couple plays to consider for this contest backed by a few SDQL codes from sportsdatabase.com.
Jeremy Guthrie (7-6, 4.11 ERA) is starting for the home side and he’s following a familiar pattern from the past few years. Guthrie is 0-3 with a 6.89 ERA in his last three starts and his June-July (team) record with the Royals, Rockies and Orioles since 2009 is 14-31. View that record with this SDQL code:
Guthrie shutout an 8-13 Cleveland team in April but the Tribe are 15-5 their last 20 and scoring 5.2 runs per game (RPG) during that stretch. Here is the link:
Kazmir has pitched to 1 over and 5 unders his last six road starts but that’s been more from a lack of run support (3.0 RPG) than anything else. Tonight, we don’t expect that to be a big problem and given the 41-19-2 O/U between these teams since 2010 (10.3 total runs scored per game), we are betting they can find their way to at least nine tonight. An updated look at the recent history can be seen here:
Our two plays for tonight’s game are on Cleveland at plus money and the Indians vs. Royals “Over” 8.5 runs.
