St. Louis bounced back from its 5-1 loss in the series opener to absolutely thrash the Los Angeles Angels 12-2 in game 2 of this series and it sets the stage for a 4th of July rubber match at 9 pm eastern
The Cardinals chased Jerome Williams in the second inning of yesterday’s contest and it puts a lot of pressure tonight on Angels right-hander Joe Blanton (2-10, 5.07 ERA) to chew up some innings. Blanton has averaged a little more than six innings through eight home starts this year but still sports a 0-4 record in those outings and the team is just 1-7.
St. Louis has strong record of bouncing back after low scoring losses and the win yesterday improved them to 18-2 this season in that particular spot (SDQL: team = Cardinals and p:L and p:runs < 3 and season = 2013) but we have a few more numbers lining up tonight as one of our free baseball picks of the day.
During the 2012 season the Cards have split the first two games of a series three times and come out with a nice 8-4 (+3.3 units) in the rubber match. Los Angeles on the other hand is just 1-5 (16.8-percent) in this spot which ties them for the third-worst record in baseball. Betting the Angels to cover the series has cost a $100 bettor more than four units. Adam Wainwright (11-5, 2.22 ERA) was the Cardinal starter in two of those 12 games and St. Louis went 2-0, with both games played away from home.
Wainwright is coming off a complete game, 7-1 win at Oakland on June 29 where allowed just five hits and struck out eight and the team’s win leader is 13-0 in this spot when laying juice on the road. See for yourself with this SDQL code:
St. Louis may have been playing with a chip on their shoulder Wednesday but we have a solid system “live” tonight showing that most teams in this situation don’t suddenly back down immediately after knocking around the opposing team’s pitching staff.
The keys to this play are that our play AGAINST team was getting hit hard yesterday and that mean they likely used up some of their pen. It also means our play ON team is seeing the ball well at this venue. When we play on the home team here we usually have to consider the run line but MLB odds at one book still offer the Cards at -128 and the past couple years show that price range is worth the investment.
Since July 15, 2011, this system has been dominating at a 92-percent clip and just five of 23 wins through 2012 were by a one-run margin
With lower totals, the pitchers have been given too much credit and our play ON team (Cardinals) has been covering the run line at an 18-5 clip. Tonight we suggest laying the juice and playing the road squad to finish their road trip on a winning note.
Pick: Take the Cardinals
