Baseball Picks: Blue Jays at Yankees

Toronto is looking to bounce back from a 5-0 loss that opened this series Friday and we’ve circled this game as our first Over/Under play of the weekend

The Toronto Blue Jays were shutout Friday in the series opener against New York and today they’ll look for payback behind veteran starter Brandon Morrow.

It’s a 1 pm Eastern start for the Jays and Yanks with odds makers posting New York as a -116 moneyline favorite. The Over/Under is 8.5 and our first baseball pick for Saturday looks at the total.

Morrow will look to snap a five-game win streak for the Bronx Bombers in this series and find some sort of foothold for his apparent squad of contenders who have now dropped seven of eight to the Yanks this season. The Jays right-hander has a 9-5 record in day games on the road the past few seasons but has to give some of that credit to a lineup that’s provided more than five runs of support per game.

The Jays are 35-27-1 O/U since 2011 when playing day games in the months of May through July (this was their best range) and scoring averages for them and opponent were 5 RPG each. Check Sports Database for detailed stats and analysis!

team = Blue Jays and DAY and season >= 2011 and month in [5 , 6 , 7]

Yankee’s starter David Phelps is coming off his first loss in six outings Monday against Cleveland and he’s seen these Jays twice in his career with very different results. Last August he gave up four runs in six and a third as part of an 8-7 loss but a month later (Sept. 19), Phelps pitched six and two thirds strong innings where he allowed just one run on three hits in a 2-1 win.

The Jays are playing with a chip on their shoulder after getting blown out Friday and road teams in this spot have a tendency to bounce back strong. Each of these teams has the firepower to produce and the early weather report suggests a nice wind could be helping things out to left. At this park we’ll take a shot that each team will find a way to at least four runs.

Pick: Take the Jays-Yankees Over 8.5 (-120) runs
