American League Wildcard Picks: Rays at Indians

It’s ‘win or go home’ tonight in Cleveland when the Tampa Bay Rays pay a visit

The Tampa Bay Rays won their ‘overtime’ game against Texas Monday and tonight they face the Cleveland Indians for a chance to compete in the American League Divisional Series.

Overnight odds featured the Rays as the small road favorite and it looked as if Cleveland would attract attention from bettors but so far the Tribe still pay back at +103 online. One sports betting shop (Sports Interaction) has Tampa as high as -116 and the total is 7 Over (-115).

Starting pitchers are Alex Cobb (11-3, 2.76 ERA) and Danny Salazar (2-3, 3.12 ERA) and Salazar should be a real change of pace after what the Rays saw Monday from Martin Perez. Tampa was able to stake an early lead in Texas and the Rays have been playing on adrenaline since sweeping the Baltimore Orioles at home Sept. 23 but tonight will be their fourth city in less than 10 days. Tampa is 9-2 in its last 11 but they face an Indians team who are as hot as any other club the past two weeks and coming off a road sweep in Minnesota this small dog could have some bite.

It’s easy to give the Rays a checkmark for pitching matchup and Cobb did shut the Tribe down earlier this season (April 6) but getting back plus-money, we’ll take the Cleveland Indians to advance.

Pick: Take the Indians
