Week 4 CFL Picks: Edmonton at BC

Week 4 CFL Picks: Edmonton at BC

The Eskimos search for shelter and composure this week following Reed’s breakdown

Edmonton travels to Vancouver Saturday to finish up their back-to-back games between the two Western rivals. BC won and covered in the rain that was Edmonton last week, 17-3. The Esks had more than 100 yards in penalties that caused Head Coach Kavis Reed to have a post game presser that will go down in viral history while exhibiting a near total melt down. It’s helped tip the sports betting public’s favor towards the home side in this one and as of Thursday, CFL odds now list the Leos at -9 (up from -8.5).

WEEK 4 CFL – ESKIMOS AT LIONS (-9, O/U 48)

Edmonton is set to get Fred Stamps back and that is a large addition. Without his presence the passing attack is bordering on toothless. Conversely the Lions welcome back Shawn Gore to their receiving corps.

There are concerns with both teams, certainly more so with the Eskimos hence the large line. They have played two-straight games in torrential downpours which limits their development. With a relatively unproven QB in Mike Reilly this could be damaging. BC has yet to get truly into synch offensively. They’ve had to adjust the offensive line with the injury to Angus Reid and are relying on a new chemistry in their receiver group with the departures of Arland Bruce and Geroy Simon. But let’s not kid ourselves, they do have talent; that is a given.

Edmonton was a road dog of 7-plus points twice in the past two seasons, winning both games straight-up and ATS

I see the Eskimos playing a very physical brand of football here and offensively trying to control the clock. The mobility of Reilly will be an important cog. Certainly they’ll feel more fleet of foot playing on a dry surface. Defensively they have the players in place to keep this close.  For any number of reasons Edmonton plays BC tough in the dome winning outright there last year. BC is only 4-5-1 ATS over their last 10 home games against this squad and 0-2 when the line was over 7 during that period.

This should be a rough one. After Reed’s tirade last week I’m hopeful the Eskimos will keep their composure. At least well enough to keep this within the number if not pull out the shocker.

Pick: I’ll take Edmonton
