The Canadian Football League is underway and we have a top play from Week 1 along with several betting tips to kick off the season!
The CFL season seemed to sneak up on us this year but this weekend, eight of nine clubs will take the field in pursuit of their first win as the 2015 schedule gets underway. Montreal kicks off the campaign at home against the Ottawa Redblacks and CFL odds makers have listed the Alouettes as a 7.5-point favorite and the total is OU 48.
The Als started slumped to a 1-7 SU record out of the gate in 2014 but used a Week 10, 20-10 win over these Redblacks to launch a 9-3 SU run during the second-half. Ottawa are +900 to win the East this year but you have to be careful laying more than a touchdown in the wild Canadian Football League. Home favorites of more than -7 points have not posted a winning record against the spread in the CFL since 2008 (38-55 ATS overall)! See for yourself with the following SDQL trend from our friends at Sports Database: HF and line < -7 and season >= 2009
Hamilton (-112) are the odds on favorite to win the East and they’ll square off against Calgary on Friday night in southern Alberta. The Stampeders are -6.5 and since 2007, Cow-town has the league’s No. 1 ATS win percentage on Friday night, going 34-16-1 (68-percent) against the number. Grab this line now before it hits seven and watch for the Stamps to start the season strong.
CFL Pick: Take the Stampeders in Week 1
Saturday CFL Double-Header!
Edmonton (-7.5, OU 49.5) are this week’s lone road fave and considering Toronto will play their next four consecutive games away from home, the Argos better try and make use of this opportunity while it lasts. Consider backing the home dog in this one and check the Pick Sixty Twitter feed for updates!
Winnipeg opens at Saskatchewan Saturday evening and the Green Riders are listed at -7.5 with a total of OU 48. The Bombers are 12 to 1 dogs in the West this season and during database history, they have yet to win in Saskatchewan (0-9 SU) but it’s worth noting that all nine of those meetings took place in Week 10 or later. The Bombers are also 4-15-1 O/U as divisional road dogs of +7 points or more so circle this total, check the weather and see if it gets bought up to 49 or more. We’ll be considering a play on the under or perhaps the first half under.
